Windier! The seabreeze came in ridiculously early - about 7:30am. From experience, an early seabreeze means a slow build and not necessarily that strong. But by 12:30 it looked good and much windier than the days we've had so far.

JG, JK, and Hayds went off fishing (and caught a 60cm Spangly - excellent!) and Row and I hung in camp until the wind looked enough to sail.

We weren't disappointed. Row rigged 4.7 and me 5.2. Felt a little bit draggy to start with, so I cranked it down a bit and put on a bit more outhaul which made a huge difference. Had to get used to having more power in the sail and on the wave, after have quite a few days of just using the wave for power. Felt a bit kooky for a while, especially off the top with heaps more wind in the sail in the cross-off conditions.

Getting in the groove, I decided the mission of the day was to try to get vertical. Did OK, but kept forgetting to sheet way out going up the face, and got plenty backwinded if I forgot!

I also got a bit more courage up going for the lip, and surprised myself how often I made it! Good for the confidence, which is what you need in a place like Gnaraloo, where the wave can show no mercy. Also got a few aerials, most landing off the back of the wave but some sweetly back on the face too - what a feeling! Also had a few good workings, just to keep me down to earth...

I had the helmet cam on the mast pointing back down me, and got some reasonable footage I reckon (stay tuned). Lost the remote off my wrist in a wipeout - that wave really does not care...

The kiters seemed to stay out of my way today for some reason. Still, I saw plenty of drop-ins by the kiters, seemingly showing no respect for the rules. What is the story? There were a lot of frustrated wavesailors out there, and I know Hayds had some words...

In spite of all that, it was an awesome session and nice to be powered up for a change! We sailed until the sun went down - on the way out you could watch the backlit silhouettes of sailors on the face, carving up the long smooth walls right to the last rays of sun. Magic.

6 thumbs up!
