Checked out Orewa at low tide and it was looking OK but a bit onshore and small so went to check out Omaha. The swell at Omaha was about waist to head high but still a bit onshore. So went to check out Tawharenui/Anchor Bay and it was head high but busy with surfers.
Headed back to Omaha on the advice of the legend that is Ramen Patel and we both went out at the south end of the beach. The swell was pretty consistent and the set waves were head high. Dropped the biggest waves yet on a SUP which was cool and Ramen gave me some good tips - like arcing into the swell when paddling for it and getting back on the board asap to get the bottom turn happening.
Scored some nice head high waves and started to work on my bottom turn. The swell got patchy from 5pm for some reason.
Great wave sesh with only two of us out. I'm hooked!...but need to suss-out how to link turns on the SUP...
