A strong Southerly change came through in the morning. Time to hit the beach after kids sport was finished. Walked onto the beach to be greeted by sand blowing into my legs - perfect 9m weather. Wind was S-SE around 20-25kn.
Went out on my 9m blade trigger and best spark twintip 134cm board. Set the kite to fully powered knots. Was well powered for the entire session, even had to pull on some depower at stages. The gusts at times were pretty fierce and had me hanging on just to manage them. Surf was small, with some lumpy small swell and chop.
Pretty much spent the entire session cruising out and back and trying jumps as I came back to around 50m from shore (jumping with left foot forward). Managed to get some serious height on some of my jumps today. Felt like 5-7m up, but I'd imagine the reality is a bit smaller. Was high enough to be a little freaked out about landings. Had a few big wipeouts, but I am now starting to land a few jumps. Got the biggest jumps when cracking along at fast pace and boosting during the gusts.
Had one little mishap when I accidentally unhooked. The kite went to safety but I just reeled the bar in, re-hooked, let the flagging line out, and was away again. Tried going toeside a few times but not much success with that. I still just sink in and lose power.
At the end of my session I was starting to struggle with the gusts due to some fatigue, and my harness was rubbing me raw and causing serious pain. I will probably need to start wearing a wetsuit to avoid this problem in future (this was never an issue in Ireland!). If it weren't for the pain caused by the harness I would have lasted another half hour or so.
Undoubtedly my best session so far in Australia. More southerly winds forecast for Monday... can't wait!
