Awesome day in the capital city. No wind, heaps of sun. . . until the mist rolled in. The mist actually hung back all afternoon just off the South Coast briming up against the hills and spilling over some of them like some kind of ephemeral liquid.
Great conditions for the SUP made even better by the freaky mist licking at the coast and slinking into the harbor. Paddled over to Worser Bay and on the way back to the Steeple Rock was joined by Mike Brown. We contemplated shooting through the mist wall in the harbor entrance over to the other side. However, the prospect of getting caught in the mist with a unseen ship bearing down was just a bit too risky.
So we slid up the side of the mist wall into Breaker Bay and smoked back with the light southerly breeze at our backs.
Mist caught up with us in the end, shrouding the whole bay in a ghostly half light with the unseen ferrys blasting on the fog horn.
No freaky aliens . . thank god, although I wonder what that scratching noise is on the roof. . . .
GPS track freaked out a bit at the end showing the finish position somewhere in the Wairarapa. I must find out how to delete points.
