Cyclone Atu was supposed to spread some swell around the east coast but the king tide at 1pm was not ideal. Waited until the mid afternoon where the swell should be at its peak and wind should be SW 20knots+.
Pitched up at Orewa to see loads of people in the water and a waist high+ swell and groomed with a very cross-off SW wind at about 15 knots.
After having 12 days straight of SUP in waves I thought it was about time for a sail so busted out my Kona 10'6 and 5.6. to wave sail a super x-off gusty wind in some long period ground swell courtesy of Cylone Atu.
It was tricky sailing to say the least. First wave I fanged straight through the surfers and got loads of stink-eye for that maneouver! See GoPro footage.
Scored a few waves and realised again why I love wavesailing as scored some waves where I had speed, power and torque off the top - something that nobody else had out there! Even heard some hoots from the surfers as I fanged down the line. :-)
