Spotted a wave on the Orewa webcam and thought it might be worth a paddle late afternoon. Got there to be greeted with a waist high set and glassy conditions. Sweet!
There were a huge number of birds that came in close and sat on the water. It was surreal as you know a set was coming as all the birds undulated under the rolling swell.
WindBoy turned up with his new 9' Naish Mana - so I had to have a go. It wasn't as tippy as I thought and pretty easy to catch the small waves on offer. But on a wave it felt small and nippy. Did my best re-o yet as it tucked into the pocket of a small wave but whipped around. Stoked. My 9'5 often gets stuck at the top of the wave. Didn't fall off it once and I now know what my smaller board bench mark is in glassy conditions: 9’0” x 29 5/8” x 4”, 140L
Got quite a few waves where I was linking front and back side turns in and off the top. :-)
Just equalled Jill C as top session logger for 2011 @41!
