E-SE winds around 15kn. A grey, cloudy day but the rain seems to have gone away for now. Checked out mid Narrabeen. Wind was direct onshore and I saw a few guys out down Collaroy way so that's where I went. Wind was more side-on down there. Pumped up the 12m Noise, and brought a 6 foot surfboard (a recent find during council collection week) as well as the twintip to the beach.
First went out on twintip. Just about enough power. Came in and got the surfboard for my first attempt at some strapless surfboard riding in Aus. Struggled getting started. Kept falling off and losing my board. Eventually I just body dragged out past the shorebreak and got started ok. The wind was really dying off at this point. Kite fell in the water and it took me 5-10 minutes to relaunch. Got the kite up and felt more comfortable riding the surfboard natural stance. Getting out off the beach required goofy foot stance which didn't help. After a bit of falling off and generally being uncoordinated I came in, landed the kite and walked back upwind to my starting spot.
The wind had died off at this point. I got the twintip and went out again just as the wind picked up once more. The wind seemed to be more southerly at this point, which is bad for Collaroy as the headland makes this wind more gusty. The wind was a bit up and down near the beach, but further out off the beach I was well powered up. There were some moments in the gusts where I struggled to hold the power of the 12m noise down. Had a bit of fun for another 45 minutes or so before coming in.
I need a lot more practice on the surfboard before I can have a decent session on it, but today was a start I suppose...
