General Information

Hey! There's no general info for this spot yet. Do you know anything about it?

Kite Surfing

Traditionally a surfing spot, T-Bay is also an awesome wave kitesurfing spot on par with Lyall Bay when there is waves, but its only really for advanced riders.  Works best on a NW-W wind, can be ridden in a northerly but you only get a really short run & you are better heading further up the coast to Waikanae.

There are some hazzads here. Lauching & landing can be dodgy at the best of times & self launch & landing should be avoided due to the lack of beach space at high tide, driftwood & debris on the beach & close proximity to power lines just behind the beach.  Winds can also be gusty close to shore & as you get close to the at the wind shadow zone towards the northern end of the beach.

Once on the water you will probably need to do a few runs tacking upwind to get out the back amongst the waves.  Its definitely worth the effort when there is decent swell.  Be respectful to the other water users, especially the surfers, as they were there first & you can get a lot more waves then them.  In the summertime on a good day, you do get a lot of swimmers & the surf life saving club will have the flags up.  Please keep clear of the swimmers & stay out of the flags.

Being a smaller beach, space is limited & realistically, depending on wind direction, you can probably only have 4 to 6 kiters out there at any one time.  Luckily most kiters would prefer to head to Plimmerton just over the hill, & only a few of us ever kite TBay at a time.

I've had some of my best wave sessions in Wellington at T-Bay, so if you are an advanced rider & into waves its definitely worth checking it out sometime.
