General Information

When at Castlepoint head all the way to the end of the road towards the Light House.

The Gap is at the far end of the beach and pretty hard to miss.

Some people drive down on the beach but don't be tempted to go too far, unless you're in a 4x4 you will get stuck and the locals tired of pulling punters out can charge for the service if you get them on a bad day. Don't be lazy, beat the feet.

Currents in the Gap can be pretty extreme, which is ptetty obvious when you see the place, one way in and out for an awful lot of water. Youll get 2 main active rip's, one following the rocks to the right the other along the cliff strip to the left. The swell seems to get amplified in here and produces a seriously grunty wave, good hollow lefts and rights with barreling sections. Quality depends on the sand bar, swell direction (able to get in the gap) and wind which is often more sheltered here.

The bar seems to give the best wave on a higher tide otherwise it closes out.

Watch out for seals on the winter months as there is a colony on the rocks.
