General Information

Situated either side of state highway 1, its easily possible to drive right through Mana without knowing about the estuary at all.

A strong tide flows under the bridge from Plimmerton and Porirua inlet into the Mana Estuary. Brimming with cockles (which can be collected - just follow the signs detailing allowances etc) the estuary is also home to lots of sting rays who love to bask in the warm water of the shallows - especially in summer. Because the tide is so strong at times, the sand bar drops steeply away in areas - watch out boaties and jetskis, its easy to run aground if you don't know where to go. The Main channel is marked however.
