"Worst excuse ever Stev-0!"

Wind Direction: E Wind Strength: swim   using 4.6 - 5.0m sail. Swell Direction: E Swell Size: head Tide: High - Falling.

The forecast looked good for the first decent easterly blow since 27 April 2015! Went to Orewa in driving rain and but the wind was a bit marginal and the swell quite small. The tide was already a bit too high so Big Wave Al and I talked ourselves into checking out Tawharanui. So we cruised up there to be greeted with a reasonable side-shore-ish angle and a mast-high+ bomb set! That set put the shits up me as there was a lot of white water and it looked like the odds of a big swim were pretty high. Check out the photo of a mast-high bowling wave! :-0

So we went to south end Omaha and it was half the size of Tawharanui and rigged 5.0 and 84L. The launch was the typical no wind and current on the inside and I kept getting stuck in a no wind spot and then getting bowled back in and sucked up the beach into even less wind. Lost my mojo when a burning sensation was emanating from my crotch and I discovered there was a hole in my wet suit where there should have been rubber! Bugger! So I waddled back and packed up and went to the shop to get some vasoline to stop the chaffing. I thought my day was going bad enough until I was in the Omaha public toilets gently applying said vasoline to affected area and a dude walked in while the process was taking place. Not a good look!

Al and Heidi both changed down to 4.5 and 3.7 and looked powered up in tricky conditions. I told Heidi my plight and she said: "Stev-o, that is the worse excuse ever!". Fair enough.

2 thumbs up!

Forecast for tomorrow ESE - would Tawharanui work? Is Mangawhai safer bet? It will be mid-to-high tide in the afternoon, when the wind arrives (supposedly).

Possibly but you should speak to Big Wave Al as I have never sailed Tawharanui in a SE but it is the best direction according to the locals. I am in Taranaki right now so hope to score Pungarehu...

The wavesailing north of Orewa is mythical. Just knurly stormy beach breaks and onshore. Gotta head to the Naki for some proper wavesailing!

Cheers. How is the Naki in this Easterly flow?

Stevo is full of shit! Always has an excuse! Maybe some practise and learning required Stevo?? The only thing mythical is his sailing ability. From good quality cross on to side shore. If you have sailed Lyall Bay, Wellington you will know what to expect. Plenty of good sailing at Omaha in Easterlies. Its a bit of a drive but worth it if you can sail those conditions.

I have sailed the best spots in Maui, UK, Morocco, Spain, Australia, NZ, USA…so know what good conditions are like and Omaha is shit. You just need to know what good conditions actually are! Hahaha.

WTF…why am I am getting shit from a dude who says he doesn't like Taranaki because of the rocks!? Haha. I packed it in because my wetsuit ate my crotch and went to seek a medical treatment (see photo) not because I didn't make it out (but it was also shit at Omaha as per usual).

I'm going to give you shit for years after giving up trying to get out through the white water.....For standing in the obvious wind shadow rather walk 25 meters to the wind line where we were sailing from. Yet blame the conditions. Perhaps with your worldly sailing knowledge you should sail from knee deep water so the water doesn't push you around...just a hint aye.Hahaha... What's funnier is that you went from there down to Orewa and attempted to get out in onshore grovel and still failed. Wrong sail/Board or something aye. Did the rash heal on the way? Then the next day out at Taka....hmmmm bad rash. Are you sure it isn't carpet burn? LOL
