Another day in a gusty Shoal Bay, I have being repetitive with this description of Shoal Bay, but this time I don't know if this is the correct word to use, maybe gusty is not enough to describe what it was, maybe I need to create a new word to describe better Shoal Bay. :-)
I get there after work, the Sun, who was shining all day, was gone, the wind was not so bad, 14kts gusty 18kts, minimum 10kts. 12m should do well. Some friends arrived and the wind start to pick up, gusty 25kts. 12 or 9, better safe than sorry, 9m will be.
Prepare everything, double check the line because I will be doing self launching, all good, self launching successfully, start ride and was good, I could get upwind, the 9m was powered enough, tide is coming in, looks like will be a good session day. To early to say, after some minutes, maybe 15, the wind drop a lot, really not drop every were, only in some spots, was like the wind was in a session of 20/30 meters, when the wind hit I could kite very well for maybe 20/30 meters and the wind drop. Sometimes I can ride for a long distance, need to depower the kite.
But the wind was getting worse and worse, I was more time standing waiting than kiting, like Orewa last time, but Orewa is a sand beach, not a mud pool.
When the kite starting fall from the sky I decided is time to stop. 2 session in the roll the forecast say something and happen different.
I will keep trying!
