The day started promising a good kite day in South Head, forecast was good, 22 to 25 kts WNW. I talked with Jordan and we decided to go early and waiting the high tide kiting. I send a message to Ticiana asking if she want to go. She can't need to work and she told me South Head was closed. :-(
Bad news, today should be perfect there. Jordan decided go to St. Heliers, I only kite there one time and was not so good, but is low tide and Shoal will be dry. Let's try it.
I get there around 11:00, the wind was good, some guys with 11, others with 9 meters. I pumped my Dice 9 meters, thinking about the 6 meters, but the 9 was good, sometimes overpowered but manageable.
I was kiting on the right side, I didn't realise the right side is the choppy one, normally I like to be upwind of everyone and was what I did, but after I leave the water I could see the flat section downwind where I was kiting.
The place I was kiting was very choppy, some small waves but was fun. I was playing with the wave when I was coming back and using the waves to jump when coming out.
Today I realise I am not looking the kite anymore, maybe I was doing this for a long time, but only today I realise it. Because I was playing to catch the small waves, I need to keep my eye on the waves all the time, and I need to move the kite to slowdown or speed up to be in the correct place. When I was doing that I saw I was not looking the kite and I knew where the kite was. :-)
I did some good transitions, I try to do a jump transition but didn't work very well. I didn't try to load and pop because was very choppy, but was really good.
I could be kiting for a long time because the low tide was 1 meter and it is enough water to kite safe there, but my legs started to show sign of tiredness, I think because was choppy I couldn't relax, I needed to be working the board, with my legs, all the time and I started to missing the edge on the transitions, etc. Time to stop, maybe Shoal bay in the evening because will be high tide.
