Wind Direction: W Wind Strength: powered

Was a interesting day, we decided go to South Head because the wind forecast was W 12 to 16 kts on the west coast.

A friend came to my house and we head together to South Head, after 1:10 hrs driving ---- The South Head gate was closed ---. We thought try Muriwai, but the waves was big for us and for a long time I want go to a place called Okahukura Reserve a bit north of Sand Island. We knew the tide was not the best, because there you need to go in high tide and high tide was around 11:00am but we don't have much to do.

The road from South Head to there is most of the time gravel, but in really good condition and the view is amazing. Took about hour and a quarter to get there, the tide was already low and the main part was dry, but have a channel close to the spit to the other side and it is enough to have a go. The wind was not perfect but enough to keep the kites flying.

We pumped the kite on the grass, I pumped the Dice 12m and him pumped a 10m Naish, I decided to take the twin tip because the channel is not wide and I thought will be easier to transition.

We did self water launch, my launch was without a problem but my friend had a line twisted and he need to clean the lines and do again.

The place is beautiful but the incredible is how flat the water was, on one time I was riding follow my friend and the only disturbance in the water was his track. The wind was good, only in on spot because the spit is a little high the wind die, all the other places was ok, but if we keep the kite high was enough to cross this place. We were kiting most of the time on the right side, close to the channel end.

I didn't try to jump or do much, I did some toe-side transition and ride toe-side a couple of times, but I have a lot of fun

I have only one problem when I was trying cross the place without wind I left my kite too low and it fall in the water and it start to drift to the sand, I try to walk fast upwind to avoid it drag in the sand because this part have some shells, but the place was a kind of a hard mud very slippery and water chest high, to walk upwind I need to stick my foot in the mud. In the end the kite drag a bit on the shells but not major problem, I checked after finish the session and nothing happens.

We decided to finish the session when we saw the rain coming, both of us was stocked by the place, we will be back.

To go back we decided to get the road to Wellsford and there to Auckland, the road is good, no problem at all.
