Finally a windy N forecast after six months of crappy westerlies! Taka Reef was the go for high tide at 3pm when I turned up - the wind dropped - typical! Rigged 5.0 and 87L Back Box and the wind filled in again. Hacked up wind to the reef to be rewarded with some fun front side wiggles and even spray off the top turn. The wind cranked up a notch and had to crank on more downhaul. The next hour was spent seasoning the reef in sunny and windy conditions. I was great to sail out of the reef to see dudes cranking some turns just upwind of me.
My arms crapped out after an hour and I went in and saw Jack just ripping it up.
Had a chance to sail a 2017 Starboard Kode 86L which was a bit slow to plane but really nice powered up and very settled and very fast in the choppy conditions.
Then I had a go on the 2017 Tabou Pocket Wave 87L which was a totally different board. Fast and frantic - like riding a broncho!
