  First time kitesurfing in Muriwai

For a long time I want to kitesurf in Muriwai but I always find some excuses to don't kitesurf there, one day the wind is not strong enough, the other day the waves is too big, the other day have too many people and so on. Today I didn't have too many excuses, the wind was perfect for the 12 meter kite, didn't have too many people kitesurfing and the waves was big 2.3 meters but will be very rare a condition in Muriwai where the wind is blowing but have small waves. This means no excuses this time.

I get there around 10:30 am high tide, no one was kiting, one guy have just arrived and was pumping his kite, until I was waiting my friend Jordan arrive I was checking this guy kitesurfing, and the anxiety was building. The guy was kiting very well but when he went outside I could compare his size with the waves and my confidence was going down.:-)

Jordan arrived and we talked a bit and I decided to see how his go because my level is a little less of his, after he kite for a bit I saw I could do the same he was doing, stay close to the beach and avoid the big waves outside. Time to pump the kite I have a go.

Was much easier than I was predicting, I could stay close to the beach and kitesurfing between the waves, my confidence was building again and I start to going a little bit more outside. Off course I did some mistake calculating my speed in turn and put my self in some bad spots, but all the time I manage to survive. One of this time I was going outside jumping some white waves and when I was a little far I saw 2 waves coming very close, I jumped the first white wave and the second one decided to break exact where I will be in few seconds, I didn't have time to do a transition neither jump this high, the wave was a big bigger than me, well the only option I could see was a kind of dive in the wave. This was what I did, I looked on spot the wave was ready to break and I " hit" the wall moving the kite to 12, the wave break on top off my head, I could see the lines cutting the water and the kite pull me up a bit, very fast I did a transition and start to ride in the back of the wave very happy.

Next step was try to surf at least one wave, I was kiting each time closer and closer to the waves, until I was in the correct spot and get my first wave in Muriwai, was not a big one, but was enough to feel the pressure of the wave and really surfing it. Now I need to practice kitesurfing with the surfboard to enjoy Muriwai more.
