Wind Direction: NE Wind Strength: powered

 Orewa - Dice 7 meters, twin-tip Jaime 136cm.

Wind was pumping in Orewa, a lot of 7/8 meters kites flying. I was in doubt between 7 or 9. I talked with a guy a little heavier than me flying a Dice 8 meters, he told me he was very good powered all the time. this was enough for my decision, 7 meters will be.

Leave the beach was a bit trick, wind was like E means the port tack was going diagonal into to the beach and the starboard tack was going out but I can't went starboard because have some people on the water and port tack was to close to the beach and have other guy trying doing the same. I went port, sailing in a very shallow water, crossed downwind of this guy, put my board very sideways and sailing almost in wet sand, trying to get some space on my right. After that I walk to the water again and start to the starboard tack. The waves was bigger than the normal to Orewa, not really big but breaking more clean.

I went to the river mouth to see how it was, when I was getting close to it the water was very rough because the current coming out, and I almost give up but a huge flat water space in front of me speak loud. I crossed this rough spot and was in paradise, only one other guy sailing here.

First I did some tacks to see how easier was getting out of there and go upwind, all was good, close to the south side some current pushing to the river and the north side a strong current pushing out. This strong current will make some trouble latter one.

Basically what I was doing was going upwind jumping small waves on starboard tack and jumping when coming to port tack.

My jumps were very good, I land a lot of jumps, landing most of than with speed downwind. I was going high, maybe not very high but with control. Of course the 7 meters kite help a lot, first it move much faster and second it doesn't pull much, is easy to move it to the correct place faster.

One thing was not going well was my transitions, I was finishing the transition and the kite was without power, I need to pump the kite a couple of times to keep going, because that I decided to do toe-side transition, I was choosing a flat spot after pass some waves and transitioning. More or less for you have a idea how the conditions were think about the river mouth, it create a flat oval place and after this flat place some waves. I was sailing diagonal on this flat place and stretching the starboard tack to the waves. After some transition I thought why not transition in front of the wave and surf it.

As soon I get the time right was very fun, sometimes I was a bit later and I finished behind the wave and need to drop the wave, was very, very fun. All was very good until I felt and the kite hit the water, not a big deal, I stand up look back and my board was a meter and half behind me, I start relaunch the kite, took maybe 10 to 20 seconds maximum and when it was flying I look back to grab my board, it was not there, I could see a good distance I looked all around and nothing. I thought it was sank in a wave and should float soon, nothing. Ok, some wave should have take it to the beach, I started going close to the beach and nothing, I could see far and no board. I decided walk to the land spot and came back to try find it, one guy saw me walking around and he asked if I lost my board, I confirm and he told he will look around. After a while I saw him far way to my right standing, he found it. I was impressed how the current push the board this far so fast.

I went back to the river mouth play around a bit more and when I start to make simple mistakes I knew I was to tired to keep going. Time to got home.
