Information about Bay of Santa Maria, what's done there and who does it
Windsurfing - Racing, Waves, Just Cruising, Bump n Jump
This spot is located at the East of the bay of Santa Maria, but it’s possible to start from Albatros beach. The wind is side-shore to side-onshore. The wave is easy to ride, but far from the point, there’s a risk of strong current, windless and big wind swell.
Good for Kiter’s, Wind Surfers, and Surfers. Wind side-off at the beginning of the Bay and side-on at the end of the bay. Waves spots at either end of the Bay. Surf Spot beside pier in the Bay.
From December to the end of May: The trade winds blow from the NE and the wind is at its strongest on the island. Avg is between 18 and 26knots.
From June to November: The wind is a little lighter. It tends to be between 10 and 16knots.
Water temperature is warmest between May and October (like a warm bath tub). During the rest of the year a shortie wet suit is recommended.
Wind and wind swell usually from NE.
Atlantic ground swell from the NW.
