Managed to get a time slot in the family holiday to go down the coast for a sail in the rising northerly. Checked out Bayley Rd and Pungarehu but it was flat so trundled on down to Kina Rd. There were a few guys out already on the north reef. It looked lightish and the swell was about head high. Rigged 5.3 and trusty Mistral 84L twinny and did the low tide rock dance to launch. The wind was pretty cross-off and gusty so I was powered and underpowered at the same time as the wind was hitting the top of the rig harder than the bottom.
Scored some fun head high waves and it great to fully fang DTL and crank some turns. Did a gaerial which I landed out the back of the wave and a few round-house cut backs. First decent sail this year!
I came in and two local dudes were launching on 4.0 and 4.2…I was on a 5.3 and was fine on that but the wind had picked up when I was out.
The Taranaki Council hasn't removed those pesky rocks! Must write a letter.
