Comp Day Grovel fest

Kina Road Nth, Taranaki
Windsurfing: Waves
1 pm - 4 pm Monday. October 26. 2009
my rating 4 star rating
Wind Direction: N Wind Strength: grovel   using 5.1 - 5.5m sail. Swell Direction: SW Swell Size: head Tide: Mid - Rising.

Finally enough wind (just) to run the comp.... Rigged the new Naish Force 5.3m and was really glad of its light weight..... its was an epic grovel fest out there.

Had the big board and big fin on and even then I didn't plane once on the way out. It was all about just forgeting about speed and trying to get as far up wind as you could.

Once up there you could bear off and hook into some nice fun sized swell.

Tried to sit as has high as I could on the wave so I could hit the first steep section, then bomb down the line around the white water to the wally part of the wave get a few more turns in and try to line up the second section for a wee air...

Once I relaxed a bit and started to have fun things began to click. Got a enough nice turns and late lip smacks to get through to the final and a 5th equal with Constantine. Best ever result, very happy with that considering the competition out there. By the end of the final I had absolutely nothing left in my arms and could barely carry my gear.... knackered.

The day was a real wave riding test as jumping just wasn't gonna happen, it was all about position and timing and the right gear choice.... I guess I got lucky.

Beer and another sausage on the beach then the drive back home in convoy with Woo and Clayton.

6 thumbs up!

well done Chris. I contemplated staying on but we had made a commitment in Wgtn so missed the session yesterday. Great that you picked up 5th place

Nice effort, pity about the no wind though.

It's been blowing like a bastard round here

Was on my 89l single concave... a dedicated wave board ;)

Even though we didn't have alot of wind for the event, Friday was insanely good at Pungas (log and vid to come) and Sat/Sun were perfect surf/beer and BBQ days..... everyone was happy :)

Yep, top effort Chris. Well done - as the competition is always pretty good up there.

Alright Chris! I would have traded 20 of the windy days down here for even a grovelly sniff of Kina Road North.

Good effort, I groveled with my 74 liter board out and back with David it was crap but social, then packed up and went home.

A few more litres and you would have had some fun. Very hard to get up wind to the peak on small gear....
