Wide sandy beach, flatwater estuary, ample waves.

Kitesurf Guide.

Level All Levels Wind direction In the estuary, SW thru W to NW Also SE Works best in SW or W with outgoing tide On the beach S thru W to N

Estuary is Perfect for beginners in SW or W as you can only get washed up on the sand bank further down the estuary if you cant relaunch, and is cross onshore to the Foxton side.NW is cross off in the estuary so if you cannot keep upwind, ride in the surf on the beach as its cross on in a NW, otherwise youll end up on the Waiterere side with a long swim ahead of you. If you do end up on Waiterere side, you can downwind it accross the estuary to the Manawatu sailing Club about 500m further inland, then get out there and walk the 10 minute esplanade walk back to the estuary set up point.

Location Manawatu Estuary, Flat water, sandy bottom Drive into Foxton Beach, Past Mr Grumpys Fish & Chip Shop on lft , carry on till you reach the motor camp on the left and head straight for the main gates. jus in front of entrance bear left and carry on driving to get to Estuary. You can drive on with a 2wd.

Foxton Beach Small to medium waves, sandy bottom Drive thru Foxton Beach to the beach Carpark. If in a 2wd park here and walk down the beach a bit away from the carpark tom set up if busy. If 4wd, drive on to beach at either left or right side of car park and find a spot to rig up away from people.

If the beach is busy WALK DOWN 100M EITHER WAY TO SET UP. DO NOT RIDE THRU THE FLAGS IF PEOPLE ARE SWIMMING. DO NOT SWOOP YOUR KITE OVER FAMILIES SITTING ON THE BEACH The Word Estuary is an Epic flatwater Spot in anything with W in it, and SE

Set up & launch Head straight for the foot of the dunes straight ahead.. Park up and carry gear along waters edge approx 100m to high sand bank. Best place to set up as theres no driftwood and is just soft sand. Otherwise when you get on to the sand, head straight and left and set up on the flat as far up as you can. There is a bird sanctuary near the town end of the estuary so stay away from here, the closer you ride to the mouth the better.

Be very mindful of Whitebaiters and fishermen along the edge of the estuary and stay out of their way when heading out into the estuary. Fishing lines don't make good necklaces...

On the water Stay closer to the beach and river mouth than the town as it gets gusty the further inland you get, as well as the bird sanctuary to look out for. The main channel of the river is on the far side of the estuary so stick to the Foxton side unless you're prepared for the current. 5 to 6 knot current at lower tide. Best ridden around high tide as current is much less and there's more shallow flat areas to ride in.

If light wind , an outgoing tide is your friend as you get excellent wind against tide in the mouth. 8 knot sessions well dooable in outgoing tide.

Low tide riding for experienced riders only as if you lose your board it will zip away from you in the current pretty quick. Learn to body drag well or wear heel straps. 2 boards lost here since ive been here.

Kite Buggying

Great spot for Kite buggy riding. 21 km of uninterrupted hardpacked sands to blast between Foxton and Tangimoana at low tide as well as a massive selection of sand dunes at the Manawatu Estuary end to ride for those more experienced Buggiers.

Excellent spot for there and back 42km missions to Tangimoana in a W SW or NW wind.

Buggy tuition and gear hire available at Wind Warrior Kitesports at Foxton Beach.

Kite Surfing

Awesome Kitesurfing Location providing flat water as well as waves suitable for all levels.

The Manawatu Estuary at Foxton Beach has a massive area of super flat water rideable in SE,S,SW,W,NW,N winds. SW or W on an outgoing tide is best as you get that extra power from the 6-8 knot current, and blows cross on to the Foxton side. Great direction for beginners. In a NW the wind blows straight over the sandbar giving Epic butter flat conditions for the intermediate/experienced kiter. You must be able to keep upwind in a NW or you will end up on the Waiterere side of the estuary.

The beach out front provides ample waves between 1 foot and 9 foot depending on the swell in amostly cross on wind direction.

Awesome wavewriding downwinders to be had either heading south to Waikanae in a N/NW or north to Himitangi/Tangimoana in a S/SW.

IKO qualified Instructor at Wind Warrior Kitesports just behind the dunes available for lessons, Kitesurf gear rental and advice most windy days.

Kite Landboarding

Epic Kite Landboard location. 21km of uninterrupted hardpacked sands in between the Manawatu Estuary at Foxton Beach and the Tangimoana River Mouth.

Best at low tide and especially good on spring tides the sand is flat with hardly any holes and is ideal for freestyle, downwinders, or jus cruising along the beach.

Wind Warrior Kitesports is based just behind the sand dunes and instructor Glen Butcher teaches Landboarding among other kitesports to people of all ages, along with rental gear including kites, harnesses and Landboards to experienced kiters.

Wednesday evenings at 6pm (tide dependant)is Wind Warriors Kite Night, where anyone can come along and fly the range of trainer kites, maybe try a board or buggy and meet likeminded flyers. www.windwarriorkitesports.com for details.
