Ok finally got some video uploaded of this great spot NW of Nelson on the west coast. The predominant SW winds during an el nino year give great port tack jumping on the large swells that come up the south islands west coast.
Headed on over to Paturau with my good mate Gerry "Dicko" Dickson for new years as forcast was looking good.
Arrived about midday to be greeted with a solid 25 knots crosshore wind with some swell coming through at Logo high. Rigged up the 4.7 and plugged in the 89L wave board as a bit of volume is useful their due to the strong South to North constant current which trys to push you down wind all the time.
The wind did build tho as it always seems to at pats and in the end I should have come in and changed down to a 4.2 or maybe tried the 81L.
Couldn't go for any decent jumps as had hurt my ankle a couple of days earlier during a bad landing. Had to strap it up just to get out on the water.
Sailed till I was buggered, first couple of monteiths certainly tasted pretty sweet.
Kicked on after dinner and got pretty boozed, hey it was new years after all.
Sailed again the next morning as the wind was up before I was.
Very cool sailing spot
